Book Reviews (2006, 2008, 2009)

RCCS

Since 2006, I have published three book reviews with the Resource Center for Cyberculture Studies (RCCS) (screen shots left):

Shaping Things, by Bruce Sterling (author response)

Control and Freedom: Power and Paranoia in the Age of Fiber Optics, by Wendy Chun (author response)

Mechanisms: New Media and the Forensic Imagination, by Matthew G. Kirschenbaum (author response)

What I Learned

I find book reviews offer me tangible opportunities to contribute to and converse with my communities of practice. And such conversations are only enhanced when venues like the RCCS invite authors to respond directly to reviews of their books. Early in my academic career, these public dialogues highly influenced my research and writing, giving me a concrete sense of my audience.
