K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award

National Leadership Award (2010)

Association of American Colleges & Universities

Together with eight other graduate students from across the country, in January 2010 I was honored with the K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award at the annual meeting of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) in Washington, D.C. According to the AAC&U, the Cross Award recognizes graduate students who show exemplary promise as future leaders of higher education; who demonstrate a commitment to developing academic and civic responsibility in themselves and others; and whose work reflects a strong emphasis on teaching and learning.

What I Learned

While at the AAC&U meeting in January, I was asked to discuss my work with the other award recipients during a panel titled “Faculty of the Future: Voices from the Next Generation.” Not only was it a pleasure and an honor; it was also a chance to articulate how the digital humanities and new media studies actively intersect with public scholarship and pedagogy. Since that meeting, I learned that there’s a growing number of like-minded academics who are encouraging such intersections.
