Comment Protocol

Here I just want to quickly review the protocol for what to do when I ask you to comment on a peer’s change log entry.  (Of course, this protocol only applies to “assigned comments.”  As long as you are constructive, keep commenting as you so choose, when you so choose!)

For assigned comments, please:

1. Comment on an entry by someone in your cluster.  Always try to comment on an entry that does not yet have a comment.  That way, every entry  in the cluster will ideally get a comment.

2.  Quote a portion (e.g., a sentence or two) from the reading that’s due for the next class meeting.

3. Relate that quote to something your peer says in her/his post.

4.  Raise a question or two.  In so doing, reference conversations we’ve had in class (or in your cluster), if possible.

5.  Be supportive of your peers’ inquiries.  Pressure them to unpack things, explore new ideas, and consult additional resources without undermining their writing, research, or the like.

Since these are just comments (on a passcode-protected blog), feel free to write informally, as if you are chatting with your peer face-to-face.

I’ll likely ask you to comment at least once per week.  This week, you only need to comment once, before Tuesday’s meeting.  Here’s the schedule, including where we should be in The Secret Agent:

By Monday: Read through Chapter Seven and post Change Log #1.

By Tuesday: Read through Chapter Nine and post one comment on a peer’s Change Log #1.

By Wednesday:  Zotero module (and continue reading at your own pace).

By Thursday: Finish the book.

See me with questions!
