TJ Leadership

I can’t say I have done a lot of service for the outside community, but in high school I did a lot for my school that I think made a significant impact.  I was in a leadership class along with about 30 other students like myself who simply cared about the environment of our high school and how we went about day to day activities there.  We had a variety of responsibilites such as cleaning up the school before the new school year, painting, posting up posters to make the school look more exciting, organizing events (such as carnivals, volunteering activities, sporting events, competitions, assemblies, etc.). I did this all of my Junior and Senior years of high school and put a significant amount of time into it, all for the purpose of bettering Thomas Jefferson Student’s high school experience’s, along with my own.

I would have to say I am proud and also very glad that I got so involved, but on the other hand it could be frustrating.  When puting so much work into something, you don’t always get the positive response that you strive for.  Some high school kids can be so selfish, and deffinitely did not appreciate our work as we hoped they would.  All the same, I have no regrets about doing what I did, and it made my high school experience better as a whole.

I think that this experience will help me with the service learning I am about to do.  The boys and girls club is a similar atmosphere as a school. Where youth come together, and a place where we can have fun and learn about one another.

Not so Distinctive Sounds of a University Student

At a first glance I don’t understand the rationale or order of this playlist…It seems to be full of songs in no particular order, and not too many specific sounds that could hint at them being a University of Washington student. So rather than sitting here trying to think of reasons why they did this the way they did (which could take all day, and probably still turn out incorrect) I chose to use google as a tool to uncover the meaning behind these songs.

Number 1 on the list is “I wish I was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair)” by Sandi Thom. I have never heard of this song, nor listened to it. When googling the lyrics though, I found some very powerful meaning behind it! These are some lyrics i particularly liked…

“When accountants didn’t have control
And the media couldn’t buy your soul
And computers were still scary and we didn’t know everything”

This causes me to infer that this person is very opinionated about the crazy things going on in the media today. He/She would most likely dissaprove of Britney Spears’ crazy antics, or by the fact that we are so caught up in the daily activities of Paris Hilton. Technology has deffinitely taken over our world as well, I can’t say this person dissaproves, but maybe they are more artistic and into creativity rather than technical aspects of our world.

“Awkward Elevator Silence” causes me to believe this person may be quite shy or unfriendly? Striking up a convo with a random stranger would be outgoing…the exact opposite.

“Roomates cell phone alarm” shows me that they could possibly be living in a dorm somewhere on campus?

All of these songs on the playlist, I am noticing, are older or classic songs…I don’t quite know what this means other than this person has a different taste in music than I do.

“Barak Obama Iowa Caucus Victory Speech” could mean that this person is a supporter of Obama and very liberal. The last song “Things Will Change” by Modwheelmood, could also infer this same idea.
