Assumptions

From what I’m gathering, “Sounds I Am Accustomed to Hearing” pretty well covers a typical day in the life of fall quarter. The list is organized fairly chronically, beginning with an alarm clock and good mornings, lunch hits dead center about song 12, and the playlist ends with tracks about things to come. I think a track of general laughter would fit well in the playlist (I’d pluck Lily Allen in there somewhere.. but that’s just me); she includes tracks that have a generally light hearted feel (awkward chem prof comments, morning radio, etc). My classmate didn’t include any bummer tracks, so I think she approached this assignment with a fairly optimistic mindset.. which leads me to assume things about a cheery disposition and smiles. I’d also assume she’s a freshman living on south campus, as my life shares many of the same “songs”- but that’s probably going out on a limb.

Peers’ Audiographies

In this person’s play-list, the list of songs/sounds appeared to be in a sequential order as though you’re going through their day. At the beginning, the person is running to class, then talking with friends, doing school work and then going to the IMA. A lot of the sounds were ringtones, I would say they express how social this person is. I would think that other rap and R&B songs would fit in well with this soundtrack. I assume the person is really social, lives on south campus because they eat at Eleven 01 and that they talk a lot on their cell phone.

Response to “The Sounds of My Wednesday”

The rationale for the order of this person’s sounds is chronological.  The sounds are what they hear from the early morning until they go to sleep.  Other sounds that might fit in their playlist that were not included could be other meals or classes.

Based on this person’s playlist, I cannot tell if this is a boy or a girl.  The songs they listen to and everything they do don’t give any discriminatory clues.  This person enjoys the newest popular music, especially Hip Hop.  They probably live in a dorm on campus since they mention their roommates.  I also think this person is either Korean or lives near other Koreans or Korean Americans because in number 6 of the playlist they mention hearing “Korean babble mixed with a bit of English.”  They also must be an artist or have an interest in art because they were listening to an “art teacher talking with blocks of the sound of pencils drawing on paper and erasers erasing” for 3 hours.  This could mean they take introduction to drawing class.

response 1.1

After reading my peer’s playlist, I was able to grasp a pretty good idea of the basics of who she is. The first half of her playlist consists of sounds that one would usually hear on a typical day. The second half of her playlist consists of sounds that represents who she is. From what I perceive she might be in love with a boy who might not be making her the happiest, so I suggest “U and ur hand” by Pink. I assume that she sometimes is troubled by things in life, based on some of the songs.

Playlist of a Superhero

It seems that the author organized sounds chronologically. The first track is an “alarm clock.” Food is mentioned periodically, and the list ends with “Previously on Lost.”

I’m not sure what other sounds might fit since the author uses a lot of obviously fictional sounds, for instance: “POOF (hamburger)” and “Kablam! (sound of me punching the Hamburgler).”

Casey (or KC) is probably the auther, judging by the hamburger-appearing superpower sounds.

the rationale for the order of the playlist seems to be what happens in a day of their life, since The playlist starts off with sounds of the morning, and then goes to sounds associated with later in the day.

Since the playlist centers around school, and frats (judging from the title), sounds that occur around campus and in the frat are all fair game to be put into the playlist.

I assume that this person is pretty outgoing, and they have a good balance between studying and playing, as they have stuff like mario kart theme song, but they also have sounds of typing at a library. Finally, looking at their song selection makes it sounds like that they view this time of their life (college) as the best time of their life so far.

sonic version of life

Based on the list that im given, the form is somewhat chronological, both in terms of the quarter and their daily life. ive drawn this conclusion because it starts in the morning and ends with a christmas song. Other rap songs, girls chatting at lunch and dinner in the cafeteria, footsteps of her running at the ima, or music being played at frat parties may be some other sounds encountered by this person. Based on the playlist some conclusions that i have drawn is that she is a freshman in a sorority on 17th. She’s on her phone a lot as most of us are and she likes most rap. also she likes to exercise.

My Thoughts on “Sounds Ordered by Frequency”

I’m not really sure why he put the sounds in this particular order.  From the title, “Sounds Ordered by Frequency,” I initially thought they were ordered by maybe sound waves or something but then once I started reading the list I have rethought this.  I think they are in order of how frequently he hears these sounds.

Well, the sounds that are on the list like two different languages, pencil rubbing on paper and paint hitting a surface makes me think that this person might be a sort of artistic.  I would assume that they are enrolled in music, art and/or language classes.  So, maybe this person would have sounds that would be from an artsy cafe or an art museum.  I could also see this person going to a local, small theater production or to listen to a small unknown band.  But these are totally just assumptions and I am very curious to actually meet this person and see what they are actually like.

Playlist: The Sonic Version of My Life behind Closed Doors

There doesn’t seem to be a rationale for the order of the sounds. All of the sounds are sounds that fit his/her lifestyle, but they aren’t in chronological order or order of personal significance. Other sounds that fit this playlist include the sound of a car’s ignition, a commercial on the radio, ordering at McDonalds, and watching a favorite TV show. Based upon my peer’s playlist, I assume that he/she lives in the dorms, works at Hollister, and enjoys a variety of activities including sports, family, friends, and anime.

The fact that their play list is made up of primarily songs leads me to think this person listens to a lot of music through out the day. Since the songs on this person’s play list are fairly widespread, they probably have an IPOD (or maybe a lot of CD’s).
